Digital photography, cyanotype, collage
One of my favorite projects in my digital photography course was experimenting with cyanotype and ‘readymade collage.’ Using any images we wanted (I chose to use some pictures I took on my iPhone of some neon signs), we created several cyanotype compositions. Next we were prompted to explore collage as a way to present photography. For me, this involved scanning colorful construction paper and the negatives I created for the cyanotype process to create digitally-rendered collages. And finally, we discussed ‘readymade collage’ and palimpsest, i.e. seeking moments in the real world (and perhaps slightly altering them) that represent collage, and show visible traces of earlier forms and decay over time.
